Naturepedic No Compromise Organic Cotton Classic 150 Crib Mattress

Our toddler’s mattress that she has had since she was born in her crib was supposed to just move right into her toddler bed with her (we have a 4-in-1 crib), but the mattress didn’t last (it was a Sealy). Springs were popped up to the surface and the mattress sort of cracked in the middle, exposing the stuffing and springs. She’s NEVER leaked onto the mattress or used it aggressively, so we were pretty bummed. She’s 3.5 years old, and still using her toddler bed, so we had to find another small mattress since she’s not ready for a twin. Once I started researching, I was appalled at the level of harmful chemicals in these and all mattresses. I wish I knew then what I know now. We ordered this Naturpedic based on the high reviews it received. Despite it being really expensive for a mattress that she will probably only use another couple of years, I just couldn’t justify exposing her to the harmful chemicals they use to make standard mattresses, especially given the amount of time she spends on and the close proxemity she has with her mattress.

I think its good people are awake to the fact there are dangerous products out there that are unsafe but I think they are being too picky and unfair on this mattress. It does not have a high spot in the middle as some said, and any mattress for a child needs to have a good cover. This one delivers on all counts so what is all the complaining about? SOmetimes in life there is no perfect answer. You need to make a choice on what makes sense and find the safest product you can that will function. I don;t believe a mattress without a plastic cover is going to be safe for long. Soon you will have urine in it and it will end up harboring bacteria and whatever else. Then your safe mattress will be causing more harm then good. I think this for the money is as good as you will get and delivers on everything I was looking for. Safe now and safe later in case of accidents. This so called perfect mattress does not exist. If there is not a water and dust mite cover I don’t consider that safe at all.

I disagree with others that say the top is not flat. The top is perfectly flat. It is a firm mattress that has no odor at all, the top cover will protect the mattress from dust mites and liquids, and its made from high quality food grade plastic- not cheap plastic that can leach off chemicals. People think all plastic is unsafe and this is simply NOT TRUE. They do make plastics that are safe and most food products we buy are stored in the cheaper stuff anyway. SO if you put a safe sheet on top this mattress to lesson the effect of the plastic cover you will have no problems with this mattress. Even is it didn’t come with a cover I would have bought one to protect it and it would likely not be a safe and high quality as the one that already comes with this mattress. Its great that you buy this and you don’t have to spend extra money on a good cover, its already on the mattress. And everything inside is certified safe. Organic cotton, etc. I don’t agree with any of the bad reviews people gave this.

We were hesitant to spend the money on this, but after 14 months of our little girl sleeping on it and me not worrying about her breathing in any toxic fumes, I have to say it is well worth it. We have the Naturepedic mattress cover, which I also recommend. It is very heavy and sturdy for a crib mattress. If there are only a few things you can spend top dollar on, I would recommend going with a great organic crib mattress as one of those few.

My daughter slept better on this mattress the very first time that we put her down on it (and that’s saying something, since she didn’t want to sleep anywhere else but between us on our king size bed). It’s been about 11 months since then, and she sleeps fabulously on this mattress. I can’t recommend it highly enough. I appreciate that it’s organic – and that there are no harmful chemicals – and that it is still fire-resistant. I think the coil system is far more comfortable than the foam (which she had before) – and it still provides extremely firm support. It’s pricey, yes, but the return to civilized life (a.k.a. when she started sleeping through the night) was worth just about any price. I’m now about to buy a second one for my next baby!
