I am not particularly find of vacuuming, but we have a large lab-shepherd whose principle talent (if you can call it that) is shedding. So, it is something I have to do a lot. This week I noticed a tile missing from our OLD (solid) wood parquet floor. I was pretty unhappy with said mutt, sure he had done it, and had more or less resigned myself to spending hundreds, if not thousands, having the floor refinished (not knowing if it was even possible to replace). My husband suggested that maybe I had vacuumed it up. I did not think that was possible, and did not look forward to going through the vaccum bag
BUT, these bags really saved the day. I opened up the vacuum, and there it was, visible in the window! (and consequently, easy to retrieve). I immediately came back here to order more, not knowing if they would be available (since they are one flavor of generic). Well, they are, and I am ordering enough to last me a while, and hoping that these bags continue to be available! Not everyone will find themselves in that situation, but the window is intended to let you know if the bag is full. They also cost quite a bit less than the OEMs, fit and work just as well in other respects. All that said, I likely would have ordered more anyway, but for me, these really saved the day. Read more »
Generic Hoover WindTunnel Upright Type Y Vacuum Bags Microfiltration with Closure and Dust Window - 9 Pack, Compare With Hoover Part # 4010100Y
Eureka Boss Smart-Vac Upright HEPA Vacuum Cleaner, 4870MZ
This is a lot of vacuum for not much money. What I like most is the ability to turn off the floor roller-brush: it turns off automatically when the vacuum is upright or when a second switch near the carpet height adjustment is pushed. You gain all the advantage of a canister in an upright, which is easier to maneuver. The vacuum strength is very good. The switch for floor or hose (attachments) is conveniently located near waist-height (the big yellow dial on the right). The machine feels solid but it is not heavy. Although it is not as quiet as some (e.g. Electrolux Oxygen), it is not annoyingly noisy, either (I don’t hold conversations or listen to the radio while vacuuming, anyway). The long cord means you are not changing plugs all the time. The clear plastic cover on the roller makes it obvious if the roller-brush is on or off. The HEPA filter means the vented air is very clean. I got a rebuilt, which shipped with minimal packaging (yeah!) and looks fine but is missing the pet-hair/riser attachment (dispensable). Nothing can make vacuuming fun but this makes it not so bad. Read more »
Bissell FeatherWeight Vacuum, Bagless, 3106B
My wife has complained that both vacuums have relatively short cords which may, in some parts of our house, require the use of an extension cord. Also she complains that neither has a place to store the included crevice nozzle. But ALL of these quibbles, especially as regards the slight inconveniences of the Bissell vs. the Eureka, are quite minor and are certainly forgivable in view of their VERY low prices. (The Bissell is less expensive than the Eureka but in our opinions both offer excellent value for money.) Really, at least according to us, it is a “photo-finish” as regards their vacuuming performance – excellent at what they are designed to do – and desirability. Now we have read that some people have complained that these lightweight stick vacuums do not deep clean carpets well. Of course they don’t! That is NOT what they are designed to do. As I stated, this Bissell model does a simply excellent job at its actual intended purpose: cleaning of bare floors and light touch-ups on carpets. So does the Eureka. Obviously, as we received these units just two days ago, we cannot comment on their longevity. Were the Bissell to fail prematurely, I would update this review. So, if you are considering buying one, both my wife and I give our wholehearted recommendation to this little Bissell unit (as well as to the Eureka model). I thank you for reading this and I hope that it is of some help to you. Read more »

Oreck Genuine Hypo-Allergenic Celoc Filter Bags Huge Package of 8 These Are Original Oreck Bags, Not Generic Like the Others
I purchased these bags and received generic bags. I contacted the seller and, citing a shipping error, they sent the correct Oreck bags. I originally rated the seller with 1 star. But they responded to my email and sent the correct product so quickly that I should have rated them with 5 stars. I’ll buy from them again. The way I see it, mistakes can happen. What separates a good seller from bad is whether or not I receive what I ordered at the agreed upon price. This seller delivered! Read more »
Hoover LINX Cordless Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery, 18-Volt, BH50000
We got the LINX at the recommendation of a friend, who did a great demo and explained the merits of an extra battery. It’s really simple: the LINX has a swap-able battery, so when the battery that’s in the vacuum runs low on charge, you swap the run-down battery with a fresh one you grab out of the charger and–presto–you keep right on running the LINX until you vacuuming is done. So, we got the extra battery with our LINX and swapping it the way our friend described works like a charm for my wife and I. It’s a lithium-ion technology battery, so it charges pretty fast, and runs the vacuum a good while (15-20 minutes or so) before the light on the vacuum blinks indicating the charge is running down. Bottom line: when you buy a LINX be sure to get an extra battery. It’s that simple. Read more »
Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner
The Dyson meets its claims. The power is outstanding, easily picking up lint from very difficult-to-clean, dense, old carpeting in a particular room of my house. The machine easily switches from carpet to tile floors, and the on-board wand with accessories is helpful once you get used to them. Be sure to watch the dust bin maximum fill level mark, especially when using for the first time, to avoid over-filling. Read more »

SHARK S3601 PROFESSIONAL STEAM MOP
I’ve been looking for a floor cleaner that would clean the crevasses in my stone flooring. Heavy machines hurt my back for weekly cleaning, small automatic cleaners that use pads and spray chemicals don’t get into the deeper portions of the floor. Also, I don’t like drying the floor with an additional towel so we can walk on it right away. So when I saw a commercial for this product I thought “what the heck” and bought it. I thought that it would be fine for daily dusting, but had my doubts that it would clean that well, and figured the pads would become prohibitively expensive, but I had to try it. I can’t comment on the pads as yet, but one pad worked well for all three areas, and is still not too dirty to use on the other side next time, but I do tend to clean my floor regularly. An especially dirty floor might need more than one pad. It’s easy to assemble, heated up quickly, comes with an extra long cord so you can clean more at one time without unplugging, and the hot steam lasted through the bathroom, dining area, and kitchen.
